Finding a job isn't always an easy task, but with proper education and training, it is possible. Start your studies now and work immediately as a psychologist after you graduate. This is how you can become a Malaysian Clinical Psychologist.
First, you need to have a postgraduate certificate. It is enough to have a master's level in clinical psychology. You must also complete at least 1500 supervision hours, 700 of which with clients, during your master's program. Malaysian clinical psychologists are governed by the Allied Health Professions Act 2016. The clinical psychologist provides mental health services for patients and diagnoses and treats mental disorders.
A graduate degree in counseling or psychology is required to be a Malaysian clinical psychologist. There are no special educational requirements to practice as a counseling psychologist, and a registered counselor is a general practitioner who does not specialize in psychopathology. As a counselor, you can provide talk therapy, but they are not qualified to perform psychological assessments or diagnose mental health issues. A registered counselor cannot also prescribe medication because they are not qualified in medical practice.
